♥ DESCRIPTION: A stunning, rare to find vintage, navy blue drop waisted, linen/cotton mix, sailor dress by Laura Ashley, with bold & distinctive styling ~ featuring unusual & very subtle damask flower patterning in the fabric ~ a wide floppy collar, with one strip of white braid running around the edge in traditional sailor style & two long white ribbons, which can be brought under the collar & tied at the front, or left untied ~ adorable drop waisted style with a seam for definition ~ falling into the pleated skirt ~ with pleats all the way down the skirt  ~ & short cuffed sleeves with slightly pleated tops and a strip of white braid to finish. ~

The back is just stunning also ~ with the 'sailor' collar, edged in white braid skimming across the back of the neck ~ blue buttons down the back  ~ & the very 20s / 30s elegant drop waisted style, which falls into the pleated skirt. ~ Depending on your height, this dress is mid-length to long ~ please ask for any measurements you need...

This dress is just ABSOLUTELY amazing ~ beautifully detailed to create a very traditional Victorian/Edwardian/20s Flapper sailor dress, with the neck ribbons, nautical collar & white braid detail ~ and with the drop waist, & the lovely subtly damask patterned linen fabric, this dress is  just divine!!!

Excellent vintage condition ~ great quality fabrics ~ 70% Cotton & 30% Linen, which hangs beautifully ~ in navy blue ~ a real beauty! xxx

♥ HISTORY:

~ LAURA ASHLEY ~

"I reckon that women looked their best at the turn of the century..." ~ Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley are one of the world's most recognizable British brands and have over 40 years experience in making colourful, seasonal clothing with retro styling and timeless chic, capturing the essence of the Victorian era and feminine florals that make all of their designs quintessentially English and timeless.

Laura's love of all things Victorian led to the longer length silhouette and feminine styles which would become the company's trademark and was right on trend at the end of the 1960's when fashion turned from the mini to the maxi - a trend that has since returned with force emphasizing Laura Ashley's timeless quality.

In 1961 Laura Ashley and husband Bernard Ashley moved from their Kent home, the original design and production venue, to Carno, Wales, to enable them to expand the business and be inspired by the rolling Wales countryside.

Their vintage pieces are now so sought after and desired! - and once you have seen and worn their clothing you'll know why they are so adored!

 STYLING:

~ 1920s FASHION REVIVAL ~

There are key eras of the 20th Century whose fashion we look back on and romanticize, the roaring twenties is undeniably one of them ~ and thanks to the hit TV shows and the period drama films we've been seeing recently, we have been engulfed in nostalgia and are now seeing a renewed interest in the fashion of the 1920s, and we couldn't be happier.

It was in the Twenties when women were induced with an injection of self-confidence. As the new emancipated woman was freeing herself from societal restriction and from the social mores which had defined her and limited her, she was also freeing herself from the constriction of the outdated crinoline and corsets ~ and with this, began adopting a new, carefree and often frivolous lifestyle, one in which she could smoke a cigarette in public and dance the night away to live jazz at the bar.

These social changes brought with it huge changes in women’s fashion. For the first time women wore short bobbed-cut hairstyles which appalled their mothers; girdles were being left behind and looser, freer clothing became all the rage, allowing movement and agility once reserved only for men. Skirt lengths became shorter and shorter, something unheard of only a few years earlier; the loose, drop-waisted silhouette gained tremendous popularity, and a new name was born – the ‘flapper’...

The most immediate revival of the 1920s fashion sees the flapper dress as a defining dress for the spring/summer, offering up an essence of this statement style ~ loose-fitting, drop waisted and with beautiful embellishments, such as fringing and elaborate beading.

With so many styles to choose from ~ from the flirty fun-loving Bright Young Things who were the flapper girls, to the darker, mysterious edge of the noir vamp or the intoxicating damsel of the femme fatale ~ the 20s flapper and 30s Noir are fashion styles gaining as much enthusiasm and momentum this season as those women of the roaring twenties and delicious thirties notoriously lived their lives. ~
