This Jota has had one owner for the last 24 years and has covered a genuine 13,000 miles from new. It's one of only 100 series 2 180 Jota's to Slater spec which were sold here in the UK and comes with the all important Slater Certificate proving its provenance as a UK Jota, engine and frame numbers are matching. Supplied new by Teign Valley Motorcycles of Kings Teignton, Devon on the 01/08/1982 one of the very last series 2 180 Jota's. A very rare machine and the definitive model with the 240 w alternator and uprated BTZ ignition system.
Fitted from new with the twin cibie Bold'or fairing by Sprint and still retaining its original paint work and mega loud chrome exhaust system. Has had some sympathetic restoration, frame has been stripped and repainted and some bright work rechromed, brake/carb overhaul, new Ikon shocks etc. Not concours but certainly as good as when it left the factory 30 years ago. I chose to have the frame painted in two pack to the correct RAL code, as powder coating and stove enameling just gives the wrong finish and is a very severe process. Originally Laverda only flashed the frames over, with the paint of the time to a quite low standard, so she might be slightly over restored in that department now, as its very difficult to replicate a bad job, and you wouldn't want that anyway.
The wheels still have their original paint finish and are superb, although dirty in the pix but the Avon tyres have gone a little hard and will need changing to be on the safe side, but as a static display they look great. As for the motor it has never been apart and is the sweetest 180 lump I've ever heard running, the exhaust is also the bikes original chrome steel set up, which seems somehow to sound crisper and louder than the stainless steel replacement parts fitted to so many machines today. Comes with its original tool tray and tools and the all important Green book and old old style V5.
The only modifications from original are the new Ikon shocks, original Marzocchi come with the bike but are leaking oil so will need overhauling, also they don't perform as well as the Ikons with their progressive springing. It also has a fast action Tomaselli throttle twist grip which avoids great handfuls of throttle when passing other traffic, again the original comes with the bike should you want to put it back to standard. The main stand has been painted silver and should be black, there is also a side stand but its not fitted, just didn't like it as it felt unsafe. 99% of the nuts and bolts/clips spacers etc are the originals which have been re-zinc plated, this is a true bench mark bike for anyone to study if they are looking for originality. Even the chrome mudguard bolts, side panels and seat fairing fixings are the original as the new items sold today are completely the wrong shape.
I have even sourced the original Cavis green fuel pipe which stays pliable over years. The choke lever has been moved from the handle bars back down to just under the front of the tank like the earlier bikes, as I prefer uncluttered handle bars. It has the conventional cable clutch set up and not the unreliable hydraulic set up, Richard Slater of Slater Bros fame said "Although its a late bike it might have been supplied new in that form or it might have been converted as the hydraulic set ups were giving out on a regular basis, so your lucky and leave it as is".
Last used in anger around 1988, although all the works listed above have been carried out within the last 12 months.
It's loud, raucous and unsophisticated and designed with such single - mindedness of purpose - to go bloody fast and sod all other considerations.
A real bad boy's toy and a one-off chance to own such a low mileage series 2 bike in such original condition.
Overseas bidders welcome, can help with shipping. Will only be released on cleared funds.
