The reason I purchased the Nokia 5200 mobile?. I already own one which I find very reliable, easy to use, and liked the features it has. My eldest grandson owned another make which had the very annoying habit of switching itself off whenever it felt like it!!! very, very frustrating when in the middle of a phone call. When the 5200 came up on eBay I thought, what a brilliant way to introduce him to a reliable mobile, and was extremely pleased that I managed to get it. He, in turn, has found it an easy phone to use. Would not hesitate to buy from eBay any product I thought to be in good condition/working order and, most important in these economic climes, fairly priced.
I have been invited to review this mobile phone and, much against my better judgement, I have decided to dive in for the very first time. My wife has been struggling with the age of technology. I think she would have been most at home at the court of George III in 1797, but it was with enormous pride that I witnessed her using her new mobile to text. This was a leap forward I had never expected and, as so often happens, she is now addicted. Her problem then became a matter of finding a phone that fulfilled all her needs and expectations. It needed to be tactile, easy to use and reliable. I can report that the Arena failed so dismally on the first two counts that its reliability was never put to the test. The condition of the phone was first class; it gleamed! It sits comfortably in the hand and it is silver. Those are the positives. On the debit side the operating system is clumsy, the screen needs to be punched violently before it recognises the imprint of the user's forefinger and as a means of texting it is excruciating, with the dominant and intrusive predictive texting facility making life almost unbearable. As a result the phone's other capabilities were barely tested. Certainly, as a Mac user, not PC, I found any synchronisation with my computer out of the question. It did receive a call once and my wife was persuaded to make one. It worked adequately on both occasions. We never got the browser to work; it was just too much of a hassle. The phone is lying unloved and abandoned in a bottom drawer somewhere at home. Pretty but pretty useless! My wife now has a Sony Ericsson with a physical qwerty keyboard, which she loves. Oh and that won't work with a Mac either!Read full review
