1973 Lotus Elan +2 130/5 I brought this Lotus earlier this year, and recommissioned it as it had been in storage for at least 2 years. It was kept in a dry store. The car looks ok from a distance, but it does require a full respray, as there is crazing and micro blistering all over. I done the following to the car to get it roadworthy:- New stainless steel sill members - this work would be very expensive at a garage, and now complete gives secure seat belt fixings and some side impact protection. The rear drive shafts have been upgraded to solid UJ jointed drive shafts New rear wheel bearings Brakes:- Rebuilt rear calipers, master cylinder rebuilt, and new servo fitted. Engine - all new ignition components - including electronic ignition, leads, plugs etc. Full service on engine Clutch slave cylinder rebuilt. The 5 speed box was rebuilt prior to my ownership, although no paperwork came with the car other than the V5, but it has been apart as it's clean and has new bolts on it. I managed to get hold of a new gearlever for it (last one from Paul Matty) which helped the gear change. Though still not exactly smooth like a BMW, but what do you expect? The chassis is very solid, I have fully undersealed and only tiny bits of surface rust were discovered. The I adjusted the shims in the steering rack to remove play. The Dellorto carbs have been stripped and cleaned. I had he car set up on a rolling road at Tipton Garage, they re-jetted the carbs and it gave 107bhp, they own and do work on twin cams and say this was a reasonable figure they would expect. The car has a flat spot at around 2k, they knew this but wanted me to run the car and let it settle down before re-jetting again, I haven't been back as it I was gonna wait until new year, but I have had no problems driving the car around. I have fitted a new battery and the car has a stainless exhaust system. The oatmeal interior looks presentable compared to some I've seen, the drivers seat stitching has gone on the seat base, and the carpet is household carpet someone fitted (badly!) The headlining is dirty and fragile. The Webasto roof works, no leaks but a little wind noise at speed. This car is as I described, a usable car that will only keep rising in value, ideal to either run around in or an excellent base for a rolling restoration. I'm selling as I have another +2 undergoing restoration, and only got this one as it was local and I couldn't say no! I want a Lotus Esprit on my drive!!! Any questions please ask, or feel free to come and view. Its far from a show car but I'm being realistic in my valuation of the car Thanks for looking Cash on collection - £100 paypal deposit 24hrs after auction |
