The book is softcover brown paper with the front cover having a colour laid on plate with I coloured plate inside and numerous b/w plates bearing his signature
The book is one of the early RAPHAEL TUCK books linked to LOUIS WAIN.
In 1895 The Raphael Tuck & Sons ( RTS ) firm was incorporated as a Limited Company.
There were 3 known Raphael Tuck books depicting this same size (7.5" x 10")of book, style, cover/ print. The set of 3 are:-
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SAILOR by Louis Wain and illustrated by him (Tuck book no 851)
THE WILD SWANS by Hans Christian Andersen (Tuck book no 853) and
MOTHER GOOSE IN CATLAND by Louis Wain (Tuck book no 855).
A possible 4th in the set is THE STORY OF NIGGER RABBIT by Ernest Aris but as there is no "Tuck" no on the book it is not for certain.
The book is in fair condition for its age. It has been partially and neatly coloured in , in places. The bottom staple is dislodged from the book cover.
The book is held in place by the top staple.
There are 16 pages and 1 coloured plate. The colour plate is dislodged.
The pictures are a good reflection of the book condition
