A great novel from a unique and talanted writer. This deep-dive into the lives of a handful of Brooklynites explores the sordid and unfortunatel details of their lives and the choices they make on the harsh streets. Intoxicating, funny and at times profoundly sad, Selby's ability to write mezmerising characters is second to none. Would recommend.

Does this book really need a review? I first read the book in the 19702 and found it quite shocking; now I have a very different view of thee book. Am I becoming de-sentisised to the narative? However the death of Tr la la still shocks.
