Having escaped Olaf's clutches in the Hostile Hospital, the siblings find that their only chance of escape takes them to the Caligari Carnival, where Olaf and co are relaxing and planning their next evil scheme with the help of Madame Lulu. The siblings find themselves taking a more active role as they disguise themselves once more and set about spying on Olaf, but in doing so they become part of the carnival's freak show and then things simply go from bad to worse. Once again Snicket keeps the reader interested with hints of both the Baudlaire's and his own futures in his usual dark humour and mixed pessimistic yet cautiously optimistic writing style. Superb book in a superb series
