Publisher: William Heinemann, 1908, first

Quarter yellow cloth with paper-covered boards, gilt titles on top
board, and titles in brown on spine, fore and lower edges uncut. This volume takes us from
Whistler’s birth in 1834 up to 1884. The book is illustrated with 72 plates, several with
multiple images, and five illustrations in the text. Most of the plates are images of
Whistler’s work, some reproduced in photogravure, but there are some
portraits of his family and photos of family homes. There are reproductions of some
very early drawings, including the title page of a school-book of
geometry and trigonometry, which he embellished with sketches.

bright, and tightly bound.
