This is a good value "Smart" router that can have the dd-wrt open source operating system installed. Not straightforward to configure so beware! It's worth the effort sticking with it and customising. The only downside is that the hardware is not perfect. The front panel indicator LEDs tend to go very dim, but is reasonably easy and cheap to replace them.

Generally works very well especially if you change the firmware to an opensource alternative. However there are two problems with the device. The first one is a major problem as there is no cooling fan fitted . When streaming or downloading a lot of data via WiFi for more than 5- 10 mins on a warm day it overheats and stops transmitting needing the router to be switched off and back on again after it has cooled down. It does this consistently. I have added an external USB fan (Which can be powered via the router's USB port) to the top of the router which solves the problem, but is untidy. The second problem is that the status lights on the front panel have got very dim over a period of less than a year and can no longer be seen easily during the day. This seems to be a very common problem with this model but doesn't effect the performance of the device. Over all the quality is a bit disappointing as the overheating issue spoils an otherwise good router by making it unreliable unless an external fan is addedRead full review

This router is nothing short of amazing. It is dd-wrt friendly and it has shown to be very reliable, robust and performant. The only downside is the fact that it is quite ugly and doesn't fit very nicely in the living room :) Other than that, no regrets!

I have tested a lot of routers under the £200 with DDWRT and OpenVPN. Heres my list in speed order with the WRT1900ACS at number 1 yet again: 1) WRT1900ACS 2) ASUS RT-68U 3) Netgear R7500 4) Netgear R7000 5) Linksys EA6900 6) Netgear R6400 7) D-Link DIR-880L These are all Dual Core CPU routers - don't waste your money on a single core model as you'll be replacing it straight away.

Superb quality. Gives much more powerful signal than my previous router. Absolutely worth the price as well as it officially support OpenWRT firmware
