It does split logs but not as easily as I expected. You will need a heavy hammer 2lbs+ to make headway.Would buy again if space is an issue. If space not an issue I would use a log splitter axe in preference.

    Solid does the job

    As other reviews have mentioned, it's worth keeping something under the log you're splitting so the tip of the wedge doesn't get damaged. It's great. It's opened up some really gnarly oak logs, with a lot of help from a sledgehammer. Great piece of kit. Why buy more expensive?

    Does the job.

    A good log bomb splitter. I bought two having got one stuck in a log before and needing a bit of extra persuasion, but haven’t needed the second one yet. One arrived with a bent point, which I had to straighten before use, it does the job with a good sledge or lump hammer.

    Side splitting!

    Faced with 'rounds' of hardwood, up to .5m diameter, thought I'd use this to split down to usable.......... First impressions are good, weighty, nicely finished, sharp point to 'start' insertion. I used a 10lb sledge to strike, knackering, but VERY effective. 2 tonnes split so far, device still comes back for more!!

    Very effective and easy to use

    Had my doubts about how well this would work on semi-seasoned oak. Using a 10lb sledge hammer it split a 10" thick slab in 6 or 7 blows - unbelievable! Was advised to buy 2 so when one got stuck I could use the second to rescue it. Wise advice. Only downside is the colour - a bit tricky to find when it ends up in the log pile after a poorly aimed blow dislodges it from the log.

    Just the job

    I’ve been labouring to split logs with an axe for months and this simple little tool has been an absolute boon .... a few knocks with a lump hammer on seasoned wood and more often than not the splits make the job a cinch.
