I bought a spinner for a birthday present, but I got to use it much too, eventually. I like shooting on film and this camera seemed very unusual for its results. So I liked it, I could compare it only to the soviet Gorizont, but with the spinner you have a full circle of your shot and maybe even a little bit more than 360 degrees. The thing I liked most was that it had the Lomo look of its shots. It even projects light on the sprocket hole strips, which makes the picture dimensions 900 mm by 35 mm, not by 24 mm. I like that it is fair simple -- there's no shutter and that means the shutter can't get broken, right? I also like the look of the camera: people often do not even understand that it is a photo camera; they really think it's some kind of a small megaphone or something. I like that it gives you a good curved pinhole effect of the horizon line, when you shake your hand while the head is rotating. Also, you can never escape the lens, you will be presenting in your shots fairly often. Among the thing I do not like is the cost. It's basically a toy camera, lens is plastic, I believe, no shutter as I mentioned. So why 60 GBP? Sometimes it leaks light through the cloth inside when you fail to load your film properly and cover it with this particular peace of cloth. Another thing I dislike is the lack of options of rotation rates. I mean, the rate is fixed, it is equivalent to something between 1/125 and 1/100. I believe it would be nice to have 1/60, for tripod usage, of course, or even 1/30. Well, these are equivalents, I mean, it would be nicer if the head could rotate slower also, as an option. If you are OK with the disadvantages above and you buy the thing, be prepared for great moments: it's a real fun to shoot with it and the pictures are always as shot on Times Square -- when shooting among people.Read full review
This is so much fun, the look on peoples faces when you pull it out is worth it alone. If the camera is not perfectly straight it does make the pictures a little like a rollercoaster but I feel that adds to the effect. Make sure to warn your developer before processing and if you scan your pics yourself you can't go wrong with the Lomography Digitaliza to make sure you get the sprockets. The length is also not uniform and as there is no flash make sure you have decent film and pic a sunny day. Very fun, great to experiment with.
