PayPal is the preferred method of payment and allows us to get your item to you fastest. PayPal is the only payment type we accept through sales on eBay that are listed as 'buy now' items. To allow us to manage our inventory effectively we require immediate payment on all 'buy now' purchases.
Credit card payments are only accepted at our Lair of the Octopus website and not through eBay.
For items that are won in 'auction' payment is acceptable by PayPal or also by postal order. Postal orders are preferable 'uncrossed' as this allows them to be paid in at a local post office. Crossed postal orders may only be redeemed at our local bank and this may cause delays to your item being shipped. Please note, all postal order payments should be sent by recorded or registered post. It is the responsibility of the Royal Mail (and not ourselves) if payments are not later received.
Other types of payment may only be accepted for purchases made direct to us. We do not accept cheques under any terms. Please contact us for further information.
We ship using Parcels2Go and the Royal Mail. Please click on the P&P Payments tab (next to the description tab, top left) for details of all shipping types available. as per eBay and Paypal rules, we will only ship the item to the address that is registered with Paypal. We ask that buyers do not purchase items and then send us an alternative unregistered shipping address. In these cases the transaction will be cancelled.
In most cases we ship by the listed courier type, but at our discretion, we may choose to ship your item by an alternative courier different to that listed. We may also combine multiple purchases in to one box and ship the items by a courier of our choice.
The two main couriers we use for deliveries in the UK are detailed as followed:
Hermes: Parcels are booked in up to late afternoon from Monday to Friday for next day collection with Hermes. Please note, that this means that items purchased from Thursday evening onwards will not be collected from us until Monday morning. Hermes provide a 3 - 5 working day service that includes a tracking number and insurance. Deliveries will be attempted up to three times. On non-deliveries the courier will leave a card where possible (flats may not be accessible to do this). The tracking number will be provided through eBay by ourselves as soon as the item is booked in and we recommend buyers use the tracking number to check when their item is out for delivery. Should a buyer have difficulty receiving their item they should contact us as in some instances we may be able to relay special instructions on to the courier.
Tracking Hermes: If the tracking number begins with 'P2G' the item should be tracked at Parcel2go.com. If the tracking number is a series of sixteen digits it should be tracked at myhermes.co.uk.
Royal Mail: All our Royal Mail items are now collected from us Monday to Friday. The Royal Mail advise that over 90% of their parcels are delivered first class within two working days and second class within three working days. Royal Mail do not class items as lost until fifteen working days after the estimated delivery date and advise that items may and often are still delivered during this period. Tracking is only available from Royal Mail if the customer chooses a registered delivery service at the checkout and not on standard or signed for services. If the buyer is not available to accept delivery Royal Mail will usually leave a card but this is not guaranteed. In the event of a failed delivery Royal Mail will hold the parcel at a local depot for a period of time in which the buyer can collect the item.
Further postage information we advise buyers on is as follows:
Despatch times: Items are shipped within the time advised in the listing. Please consider the despatch time advised before you buy the item. We are not able to accommodate buyers that purchase items and send us messages on the same day asking for it to be shipped right away. All of our items are kept in a storage lock up facility and must be collected first before being shipped. We respectfully ask that buyers do not make demands on shipping times and services beyond what is advised in the listed shipping information. Buyers who would like their item quicker should choose to upgrade to one of the listed faster shipping times available at the time of check out.
Non-delivery of item: It is the buyers responsibility to accept delivery of the item or to collect from a local depot if they are not in at the time of delivery. If an item is returned to us due to a buyer 'not collecting' their item from a depot any additional postage costs incurred will be the responsibility of the buyer regardless of whether the courier left a 'card' or not. Couriers do not allow us to 're-ship' an item for free under any circumstances and the buyer will be accountable.
Packaging: We endeavour to do our best to ensure your purchase will reach you in premium condition and the majority of our items are all packed in cardboard boxes with packing. Should you wish to have more secure packaging for your item please ask before completing your purchase. It is the responsibility of the buyer to tell us if this is a specific requirement. Increasing the packaging may affect the box weight or size and in turn increase the actual cost of the postage to be paid.
All items are shipped exactly as stated in the listing. At the Lair we strive to make the descriptions of products very precise and objective. If you still have questions, please contact the Lair before you buy. All buyers are recommended to read our returns policy before buying an item. Please do not buy unless you have read, understood, and agreed with the terms of our returns policy.
Action Figure and Statue / Bust information - if the item listed is in a card or box then collectors please note, there may be some minor shipping or storage wear to the outer card or box on action figures as these items will often travel long international distances to get here. This journey can cause minor wear to the packaging. The individual cost of the item is based on the importation cost of that item, therefore prices on different figures in same ranges will vary depending on availability and demand for the item in the US. Many of the items we stock are only available by importing them. We regret that as all our items are stored in a storage lock up we are not able to offer opinions on paintwork, card condition, or quote exact figure sizes except where already available in the item description. Comic book information - collectors of high end comic books should please note, we do not offer strict opinions on grading on all comic books or on possible restoration to comic books. Grading is often subjective and will vary from person to person, if an opinion is offered in the description, it is only that, and may not necessarily reflect the buyers opinion. We recommend rather a close inspection of the provided image/s. Restoration is an area of specific expertise that often requires a trained professional to identify. Therefore, we offer the largest detailed scan or photograph of the comic book possible. We ask that the buyer examine this carefully and ensures that he or she is happy with the book before purchasing. On high end comics we will show the front and back cover. On lower end comics it should be assumed the back is in similar condition to the front. If there are specific flaws within the book, for example, cut-outs, major tears etc, then these will be highlighted under the item condition notes section above and in some cases shown in extra pictures of the comic. The buyer is always welcome to ask for additional information before purchasing or may refer to our Lair of the Octopus web store for a grade where one is not available on eBay.
Paintwork on items may vary in quality on some items and is often hand done by the manufacturers. On rare occasions there may be minor paint flaws on items. This is part of the manufacturing process and it is not considered a fault on the item. We do not return or exchange these items for customers that would prefer 'different' paintwork on the item. Due to having a large amount of items in storage we also do not inspect items individual paintwork before sending them out. All items of this nature are bought as is and we ask that when the buyer clicks the buy now they accept the manufacturers paintwork as it is.
Positive feedback is left automatically for buyers where upon positive feedback is received for ourselves. If as a buyer you feel that you have reason to leave a neutral or negative feedback rating please let us know why first before leaving feedback as this gives us an opportunity to correct any problems that may have arisen after the purchase. Buyers that leave 'unreasonable' feedback for occurrences beyond our control without giving us the opportunity to correct the problem first will be 'blocked' through eBay from future purchases. We endeavour to treat all our customers fairly, with respect, and with reason, and ask that when leaving feedback our customers do the same.
The Lair Of The Octopus eBay store and web store specialise in comic books, 1/6 scale action figures and accessories, and Marvel and DC enterainment merchandise. The Lair has the largest range of Triad Toys available in the UK, and stocks many other unusual 1/6 scale manufacturers including ACI, ZC World, and many other brands. We also scan almost our entire comic catalogue, so what you see is what you get, whether it's on eBay or our web store, we do not use stock images for single comic listings.
We are not able to accomodate visitors as we do not have a retail shop. Our items are stored in a storage lock up facility. For this reason, local buyers are welcome to collect in person, but will need to make prior arrangements with us first by e-mail.

"Can I have a discount?"
We would advise all buyers now that we are not able to apply discounts through eBay. Besides seller fees and commissions we regret that it is also not practical. We receive many buyer requests each day for many items and we are not able to spend the time ending items, revising items, or sending invoices to these buyers. On many items it is also not possible to discount as they may be multiple quantity listings. Items are priced separately on our eBay store and our web store, and these are the only prices available.
"Can you tell me the condition of the card for this action figure."
We have very large quantities of action figures all kept in a storage lock up facility. Therefore we regret that it is not practical to search for the answer to this question and ask that buyers accept the card condition based on the information already available in the description.
