Stainless steel fasteners are not suitable as replacements for high tensile fasteners. For situations where increased strength and anti corrosion properties are required, zinc plated (BZP) high tensile fasteners are available.

A4 or 316 grade stainless steel provides superior corrosion resistance in comparison to A2 or 304 grade stainless steel.

A4 stainless steel is used widely in marine environments and is often referred to as "marine grade" simply because of its superior anti-corrosion properties.

High tensile black oxide finish referred to as "self colour" or "blackened steel" do not include a corrosion protection coating. The zinc plated versions of the same tensile strength are the better choice for outdoor applications.

Unlike other fasteners, the heads of countersunk bolts are included in the described length.
