THE MAN-EATERS OF TSAVO

AND OTHE EAST AFRICAN ADVENTURES

LIEUT.-COL. J. H. PATTERSON, D.S.O.

WITH A FOREWORD BY

FREDERICK COURTENEY SELOUS

MACMILLAN AND CO., LIMITED
1907

First edition.
Pattersons famous account of his battle to destroy the 2 man eating lions that slaughtered workers on the Kenya - Uganda railway. (Made into the film "The Ghost and the Darkness", with Val Kilmer). The later chapters cover rhinoceros hunting at Tsavo and the loss of his shikari to a lion on the Kapiti plains. There is also a very interesting appendix with everything you need to know for a big game hunting safari. An excellent read with lot of great black and white photos.

Considered one of the greatest man-eating sagas of all time, The Man-Eaters of Tsavo is the first hand account of the infamous Tsavo lions. These lions—who for nearly a year terrorized East Africa— succeeded in bringing the construction of a railway line to a complete halt, and have been credited with the deaths of some one hundred people. Written by the legendary officer who shot these lions and risked death several times in the attempt, The Man-Eaters of Tsavo is not only the story of this breathtaking hunt, but of Lieutenant-Colonel Patterson's other adventures in the African bush.
