Man on Wire is a 2008 documentary about a French tightrope walker who performed a high-wire act of epic proportions in 1974: He walked between the World Trade Center towers. This documentary is a study in the practice, planning, and persistence it required to complete one of the strangest, one of the most daring, and, ultimately one of the most incredible examples of guerilla performance ever attempted.

This is a very moving film with complementary music which gives the right atmosphere. Apart from the challenge and the courage of the wire-walker, it is also very symbolic of a great loss. The beautiful twin towers were so iconic and their sudden and tragic loss both devasted the world and made us all aware of our vulnerabilty to terrorists and who we can trust. The fact that the towers are no longer there in New York for us to visit and enjoy makes this film a record of what was taken from us and at the enormous cost of many lives. The gradual build-up to the mid-air walk is tense and enjoyable as you share in the ambition and the pitfalls of one man and his belief of himself. Although he was breaking the law, no one was getting hurt, as he only put himself at risk, but the fact he was arrested for wire-walking was a token gesture to society by the authorities who also admired his genius. The film is worthy of five stars, and a must for anyone with a dream to pursue. It stands as a reminder of human success over adversity and a memorial for those who perished on 9/11. I would have bought this film regardless of cost on the basis of honour to all who took part in the making of it.Read full review
Lacking a lot of the lustre and writing flair which Petite featured in his book, from which this video was drawn upon. Petite admits at the end of the film that this partly independent documentary/film has such shortfalls, and even some inaccuracy regarding his emotional involvement in the project of the WTC Towers wire-walk and his response to News reports etc. The book, as any well written book should be, stirs the reader to use his own imagination and as it did in my case even inspired me to seek to excel in my own meagre tasks of cabling and rigging work that I was involved in whilst reading this book.
