Album Notes Martin Belmont is best-known as a guitar-slinger, playing lead for Ducks Deluxe, Graham Parker's the Rumour, and Nick Lowe's Cowboy Outfit, so the idea of him playing the same role on his 2009 solo album, The Guest List, is an inspired one. Here, he brings in all his old colleagues and running mates to sing a song, ceding the spotlight to Graham, Nick, Paul Carrack, Sean Tyla, Geraint Watkins, and a host of other old pub rockers, every so often granting himself a solo spotlight for a Hank Marvin-styled instrumental, including a nice spin on Elvis Costello's "Alison." The sound and style shift from track to track -- Tyla revs up the reggae, Lowe settles into his comfortable groove on "A Man in Love," Parker snarls on "In the Midnight Hour" -- but everything is within the same rootsy universe, and it's all delivered with an understated but winning touch. Instead of a long night out on the tiles, it's a quick round with old friends on a Sunday afternoon at the local pub, and that's pretty appealing, too. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Martin Belmont’s long and varied career has found him playing with many outstanding artists. After an initiation as roadie for Brinsley Schwartz, in 1972 he formed Ducks Deluxe with Sean Tyla, issuing two albums on RCA. In 1975 he formed Graham Parker and the Rumour who were much-feted over their 5 years and six albums. Then he spent two years from 1980 as guitarist for Carlene Carter, succeeded by five years with Nick Lowe’s Cowboy Outfit, in both line-ups playing alongside Paul Carrack.
Martin continued as an in-demand sideman across a wide spectrum of music, with sessions for Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg, Carl Perkins, Jona Lewie, John Hiatt, Desmond Decker and Johnny Cash to name but a few. In 1995 Demon Records issued his first solo album, ‘Big Guitar’. Currently Martin can be found playing variously in Los Pistoleros, The Johnny Nicky Band, Hank Wangford & The Lost Cowboys, and the newly reformed Ducks Deluxe.
When his first manager and old friend Dave Robinson suggested he should send out invites to his old band-mate vocalists to record on his own project, everyone was eager to join in.
The result is this unique rock’n’roll and country blues album, on Goldtop Recordings.

*This is a different version to the one on Nick Lowe's 'At My Age' album. Nick originally recorded this version with Martin for Martin's album at 'Roy's Kitchen' and mixed at Goldtop. Later he decided he liked it enough to re-record it for his own album, recorded at Goldtop. Hence this is the 'original version'.
