|Conflict:||World War I (1914-1918)|
This collection contains the original index cards (fronts and backs) produced at the Army Medal Office, Droitwich. Includes those that were honoured with the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Medal, the 1914 Star, the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal, the Allied Victory Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Silver War Badge for Services Rendered, the Territorial Force War Medal and the Allied Subjects Medal.
The collection currently contains approximately 4.8 million people, which is nearly all of the total collection. The records in each release cover a wide range of surnames from all alphabetical ranges. The Medal Index Cards collection is the most complete listing of individuals who fought in the British Army in WWI, containing approximately 90% of soldiers names. The Index Cards were created in order to keep in one place details about a soldiers medal entitlement.
FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WW1 PERIOD BRITISH SOLDIERS AND THEIR MEDALS I WILL RESEARCH THE WW1 MEDAL INDEX CARDS OF YOUR CHOICE FOR FREE. IF I FIND ANY I'LL LET YOU KNOW AND INVITE YOU TO MAKE A 'BUY IT NOW'.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION FOUND ON MEDAL INDEX CARDS VARIES BUT LOOK AT THE MIC PICTURED ABOVE AND NOTE THAT THERE ARE TWO SIDES. BOTH SIDES WILL BE COPIED ONTO THE SAME SHEET FOR THE ONE PAYMENT, JUST AS IT APPEARS ON THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT.
ALSO NOTE THAT SOLDIERS MAY, ON THE VERY ODD OCCASION, HAVE MORE THAN ONE MIC. EACH ONE MAY CONTAIN DIFFERENT AND INTERESTING INFORMATION. IF THIS IS THE CASE MULTIPLE PAYMENTS WILL BE REQUESTED.
THE MINIMUM INFORMATION USUALLY FOUND ON THE FRONT OF THE CARDS ARE THEIR SERVICE NUMBER(S) (THESE SOMETIMES CHANGED), RANK(S) HELD, REGIMENT(S) SERVED WITH, FULL ENTITLEMENT OF WW1 MEDALS AWARDED, MEDAL ROLLS NUMBERS (USEFUL FOR FURTHER RESEARCH AT KEW).
OTHER DETAILS THAT MAY BE INCLUDED ARE ANY OTHER MEDALS OR AWARDS, FOR EXAMPLE, GENERAL SERVICE MEDALS; ANY ENTITLEMENT TO THE SILVER WAR BADGE GRANTED TO THOSE MEDICALLY DISCHARGED; THE THEATRE OF WAR THEY FIRST SERVED IN; THEIR DATE OF ENTRY IN THEATRE; DATE OF DISCHARGE OR TRANSFER TO THE RESERVES, 'KILLED IN ACTION'; AND VARIOUS OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION.
SOMETIMES THERE IS AN ADDRESS ON THE BACK, OR OTHER SPECIAL ENTRIES – SEE THE EXAMPLE.
YOU JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT WILL BE WRITTEN ON AN MIC UNTIL YOU LOOK!
COPIES FROM THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES WILL COST YOU £2 - £3.50 EACH AND YOU ONLY GET THE FRONT OF THE CARDS, SO PART OF THE INFORMATION COULD BE MISSING. THEY ARE ALSO ONLY IN BLACK AND WHITE, AND GENERALLY POOR QUALITY COPIES, WHICH SOMETIMES MAKES THE HANDWRITING DIFFICULT TO READ, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S OVERWRITTEN. SEE HOW CLEAR THE COLOUR IMAGES ARE IN MY EXAMPLES.
THE ADMIRALTY KEPT DIFFERENT RECORDS TO THE ARMY AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE MIC'S, BUT I CAN LOOK UP THE ACTUAL MEDAL ROLLS FOR ROYAL NAVY AND ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION SAILORS, AND ROYAL MARINES FOR THE SAME PRICE OF £1.80 + P+P.
*I CAN ALSO SEARCH FOR MERCANTILE MARINE/ MERCHANT NAVY REGISTRATION CARDS; VICTORIAN MEDAL ROLLS TO THE ARMY AND THE NAVY; VICTORIAN ARMY SERVICE RECORDS; AND SILVER WAR BADGE ROLLS.*
TO MAKE SURE I FIND THE RIGHT SOLDIER, SAILOR OR MARINE FOR YOU (OUT OF THE VERY MANY THOUSANDS OF OTHERS) I NEED AS MUCH INFORMATION AS YOU CAN GIVE ME. SO PLEASE ‘ASK A QUESTION’ OR EMAIL ME AT BITSANDBOBSRWE@HOTMAIL.COM AND LET ME KNOW:
THIER SURNAME FIRST NAMES OR INITIALS.
RANK (EG., PTE, GNR, SPR, CPL, SGT., ETC) REGIMENT(S)
THE MORE YOU CAN TELL ME THE BETTER!
FOR MORE THAN ONE MIC MULTIPLE ‘BUY IT NOW’ PAYMENTS WILL BE REQUIRED.
NOTE TO BUYERS
I WILL BE UNABLE TO POST ANY ITEMS
BETWEEN THE DATES 5 SEPTEMBER UNTIL 21ST SEPTEMBER
