PICTURES ARE RATHER LIGHT SO DO NOT DO THIS CHARGER JUSTICE.
We believe this large charger to have been potted by Michael Cardew although unmarked and decorated by the American academic Henry Bergen.
It has been in our collection for over 12 years.
There is a Michael Cardew charger the same as this one in the Stoke Potteries museum.
This charger depicts the famous quote from the Shakespearean play Hamlet
WHY LET THE STRVCKEN DEERE GO WEEPE.
THE HEART, VNGALLED PLAY.
FOR SOME MVST WATCH WHILE SOME MVST SLEEP.
SO RVNNES THE WORLD AWAY.
This charger has 2 natural splits (as shown in pics) and a white residue through the clay on the back as is the case with many Wincombe pottery pieces.
Charger measures 14 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches in height.
Thanks for looking.
