Microcar Virgo 2001 '51' Reg
Excellent little car - can be driven on a B1 licence
I bought this to commute to and from work over the winter months (It's too cold for a motorbike).
A change in circumstances means I can now use the wife's car so this little gem is up for sale. (and the bike will be back out soon).
MOT until 21st December. Several new parts fitted after I bought it and gave it the once over include:
Both front engine mounts
Bottom ball joint (drivers side)
Brand new battery
Carb removed, cleaned and reset
Variator removed, cleaned and new centre bearing
Gearbox oil replaced
Also recently had new tyres and brand new spare (alloy) wheel and tyre.
This is the HSE model so comes with remote central locking, electric windows, rear wiper, fully carpeted and alloy wheels. 505cc engine, 50+ MPG with just forward and backwards gear, it's like driving a go-kart - 'Such Fun!'
Comes with a very nice JVC stereo that plays CDs & MP3s
No known issues with the engine or drive chain and the car was in daily use.
The front bumper has cracks in it through age/vibration and is a common fault, a second-hand replacement is about £35, but as it's plastic it will never rust and as you can see from the other photos you can't really notice it. It is perfectly solid and attached. Photos to show damage.
When cold the boot struts don't hold the boot lid open fully, I have included a photo to show this, not really a problem as it too is plastic and very light, but I like to be as honest as possible.
There are one or two areas of 'crazing or cracking' in the paintwork again due to vibration, I can't get them to show on the pictures, but it is just the paint and not the panels.
The heater controls don't seem to adjust much, again a common thing. They are however set on warm and windows so clears the screen etc fine.
Please feel free to contact to arrange a viewing.
If you have owned or have researched these little cars you will know what to expect. If not don't expect a car you can zoom down the motorway in or go on holiday in. They are noisy (compared to normal car), vibrate and have fairly harsh suspension BUT are an absolute BLAST to run around in.
They are designed for local trips and commuting, having said that I have driven 40+ mile trips on A roads and the previous owner went all over the north of the UK in it (avoiding motorways). It will go 60 MPH but is happiest on A roads at 45-55mph, from 0-35MPH it is quite nippy! A set of rear seats and seatbelts can be fitted all the mounts are in place and can be bought second-hand for about £50.
There are plenty of websites and owners forums for you to join and find out loads (I did!).
Priced to sell - dealers on Ebay have 2001-02 models at £2000+ !
So a great car - ready to go.
