Here is for auction my 1977 leyland mini van selling due to lack of use last summer only been out in it on the sunny days not many ! and 4 shows !! i have only had this van since Feb 2009 having located it in deep Hampshire it had undergone extensive restoration (fully documented on a cd picture disc available with all receipts to the buyer) in 2007 /2008 bare shell rebuild and change of engine (see example pics 11 &12 from the cd) from the original 850cc to a 998cc all this work was carried out at the previous owners garage by a portsmouth mechanic the car was originally located in a field in a Hampshire garden centre having stood there for many years and in a real sorry state
with a short mot till end May 25 2012 it flew through last year , tax it is scorned at present because i dont use it in winter and it has been in my garage since November.
It boasts a stainless steel thru exhaust pipe with big bore box and twin pipes qualityCobra Monacco S bucket seats , a new custom built vinyl dash with many Smiths gauges (these need connecting as the dash only put in recently) it has a fitted mini folding back seat so can sit four although no belts in the back all the brakes, cylinders ,shoes, brake pipes have been replaced they are still drum type but now are accompanied by 12"minilite alloy wheels rather than the old steel 10" ones
All the floor was replaced with new panels and doors and many other body parts rubbed down to bare metal i have many pics and receipts to prove the extensive restoration this car has undergone a new petrol tank and shock absorbers starter solenoid, battery steering wheel door rubbers etc all replaced the car is now a dark matt grey and looks good but by no means show standard as it is 98% complete and requires some small jobs to finish it off . The mini has got a sunroof but i have never used it, all the locks work i will include in the sale a large box of mini bits and bobs i had with the car when i bought it sealed beams, lights/wipers /radiator/brake bits starter motors /dizzy cap new points and condensers, things i have picked up at the shows last year.
you can view this van prior to bidding by contacting me via e mail infact i would prefer this because remember you are bidding to buy and i dont want tyre kickers or hagglers coming round before or after the sale so satisfy yourself before any backouts and i report you to e bay if you are a genuine buyer of a classic British motor history you will also be prepared to travel and veiw this van in person ,i did travelling all the way to Bournemouth to view it before purchase.
i wont deal with so called agents or sailors living abroad / nigerians wanting it for their mum or any other bandits /scammers done that last year so dont bother e mailing i will report any suspicious dealings to the police
A few things the van requires and to note
the heater unit is the single speed one and works when it feels like it i have put a running hose pipe through it 2 times i think its a air lock problem or debris in the heater matrix sometimes its hot other times it blows cold its a early mini thing! No headlining in cab or rear and internal light works but not fitted in roof the signage is vinyl so will peel off no probs
the speedo is not callibrated to the new 12" wheels so is 8mph out at 45mph
a new sender unit was fitted by Mini_Mine Stoke recently & fuel gauge problem now solved included in the sale a period boxed radio that i have not got round to fitting yet.Note the small mini halogen spots on the front a recent addition so you can see where you are going on high beam they work alongside the original sealed beam headlights which arent really up to the job on todays standards. slight tappet noise on starting this week so tappets may need resetting
The rear doors have some bubbles of rust under the paint at the bottom and need rubbing down ,and there is a flaked off area on the top right hand (drivers side) wing
I have taken the mini van to the National Mini show at Uttoxeter Staffs during the show season where it recieved a lot of attention.the van drives well for a 35 year old car and is a reliable starter but battery may need charging with standing in my garage.Remember this is a classic minivan so its not really going to be suitable for picking your mates up to go into town these vans were in their day very good but on todays standards/roads they are unreliable, high maintinance, slow and lack the creature comforts of todays modern vehicles . The mileage on this van is unknown the clock says 63k but this was fitted by me and the previous one did not work i do know that in the last 18months the van has done only 750miles this includes the 240 miles i drove up to stoke from new forest Hampshire.
So there you have it .....Mini vans like this are becoming rare and a bit of an icon these days you dont see many on the roads most of them have rusted away this one is in really good condition look at the pics of it from underneath all new and the famous notorious brakes all replaced so very little needed to do in the coming years the price reflects how rare these are with the work carried out will look great as a advertising media vehicle like the one for my own business now on it This van certainly pulls in the crowds even filling up at a petrol station someone always comes over to look at it.
i set the start price at a reasonable level and therefore not included a reserve because people always ask what it is and lets face it you are not going to get a van like this for £500
Come and View it if you wish remember no tax so you need to trailer it away and although you may want to tax it on collection i would not reccomend a great distance drive before it gets a full service having been standing for six months cash on collect with £200 paypal deposit on end of auction no drafts /cheques or transfers
