I chose this to replace an 11 year old competitor's model, that was "tired". Looking for something with a wider cut, plus extra height adjustments and a rear roller and extra cable length meant I was limited to a few makers and models, especially given the price range I could afford. It id doubtful if battery powered models would have sufficient charge time for my needs, hence a corded one was needed. Eventually I narrowed the search down to this Mountfield Princess 38 and so far have been very satisfied with my purchase. Unpacking and assembly was straightforward, with the grassbox easier that I had expected from some reviewers' comments. I particularly chose this model because of the double-folding handle which makes for more compact storage. I also appreciate being able to remove the mains lead completely. The only omission I felt in the very comprehensive instructions, was there was no mention of lubrication, and after a judicious use of an oil can on wheels, axles and height adjustment plus handle folding, the improvement was obvious. As yet, the full range of cutting heights has not been needed, but I am very impressed with a good, solid professional machine which appears to do everything I expected of it.Read full review

The rear roller is made in 2 parts. After just 2 uses the roller came apart & pushing the mower became very difficult & bumpy. Had to return it as it wasn’t fit for purpose. I have always had Qualcast mowers but they have been taken over by Bosch. I thought Mountfield were a reputable make of lawnmowers so I chose this one. Apart from the roller I really liked that it was lightweight & the grass box although difficult to assemble was ample in size... such a shame! Change the roller for a solid one & it would be perfect.

This is a good product. It is quiet, easy to push and cuts the grass well. I chose this mower as the reviews were pretty good and also a nice long mains lead, which allows me to mow much of the lawn without having to employ an extension lead. Many have stated that the grass box is difficult to assemble. I had no problems with this. The box comes in two halves which click together. If you can't get them to lock in place, carefully use a pair of piers to coax the locking tongues together.

Now a flimsy build compared to my 20 year old robust Mountfield which is still going strong. I could have bought another make for half the price.
