This album was issued to coincide with the release of the Dick Tracy film in the same way that the Who's That Girl soundtrack accompanied that film. There are four songs by Madonna directly from the film, "Sooner or Later", "More", "What Can You Lose?", and "Now I'm Following You", although the latter song appears here in a version different from the one in the film (the film version of "Now I'm Following You" was performed not by Madonna and Warren Beatty, but by the song's composer, Andy Paley). There is also a pointless Shep Petitbone mix of this song which stands out like a sore thumb. The other songs are merely fillers claiming to be inspired by the film's 1930s theme, with exception of "Vogue" which doesn't sound anything like the other tracks, and appears to be stuck on the end as it was the biggest hit from the album and boosted sales. As a film soundtrack it's passable, and it shows another side to Madonna's vocal talent, otherwise it's reserved purely for fans of Madonna and anyone who enjoyed the songs in the film or music of the era.Read full review
This is music from and INSPIRED by the film Dick Tracy, whilst there are some excellent songs (He's A Man and Back In Business) on the CD there are also some which can really be viewed as a bit a of a laugh such as I'm Going Bananas and Now I'm Following You. The CD is really quite short and follows Madonna's 1980's theme of music, The Immaculate Collection, although not nearly as good as that I feel. It is however worth having it in your Madonna collection. I'm not sure I would recommend it to anyone except fans of the film or artist though.
madonnas voice on im breathless literally leaves you breathless, for the critics that doubted her talent in the early years need to listen to this cd.madonna lives up to her name as "queen of pop"on this album, even though its not a pop record it is simply stunning.a must buy to any madonna collectors collection
