This story has been written in a very real and down to earth way. I originally purchased the story due to my love of cats. And the story doesn't disappoint as far as cat lovers go, however what it does is expands on that in a beautiful way by opening up to the lives of people affected with dementia. It is very touching and gives an awareness of the process to those that do not know much about the disease. And to those who have, like myself experienced this disease with a loved one, it is heartfelt in the way that it is a realisation that you're definately not alone in this journey. Oscars presence is such a positive one, to not just to patients, but to everyone involved. You must read it to understand it, even if you're not a cat lover. You may just change your view & understanding of cats after reading this book.Read full review
This story was spotted on YouTube, as one of their multitude of videos. I thought the story was really nice, and so bought the book. I was NOT prepared for the whole story. It is phenomenonly powerful and moving, and had me in tears almost from the start. The factual portrait of the curse that is dementia was frightening, I felt so sad for those relatives that lost someone to it. As onr husband put it when his wife had passed on, "Thank you for all you did, but I will cope OK, I came to terms with having lost her years ago you see." Oscar, the cat of the book, stayed just long enough with the husband to ensure he was OK, then went silently back to his basket, to await the next time he was needed.
