A great urban bike for a great price. I'm moving and can't take the bike with me.
I bought this bike in May 2008 from the Cycle Surgery. I have always serviced it there and my only interventions were to changes flats. This is a great bike for a daily commute. It is quite aggressive to ride and very responsive - hydraulic brakes are a great bonus! It weighs only 10kg, thanks to the carbon fork. Here's what I used it for (I tend to avoid cycling in the rain): -For 1 year from Marylebone to Vauxhall -For 3 years from Hackney to Vauxhall -and a dozen times since then to go to my local park. The front wheel has been replaced with a DT Swiss costing £72 in May 2011, which is better in my opinion as it gives a better weight ratio to the ride. You can find all the specs on marin.co.uk/2008/bikedetail.php?ModNo=3818. Note that the 2008 version is by far the best one as Marin seemed to have lower the quality of the components it uses on the newest versions. For a review of the 2009 version, go to bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/urban/product/review-marin-point-reyes-09-33751 At a glance: -Frame and fork: Quality, lightweight mountain bike chassis with a carbon fibre fork, big clearances and the all-important eyelets for mudguards and carrier racks. -Handling: Good tyre choice combines shock-absorbency with speed. The wide bar is more at home on technical singletrack than congested city streets. -Equipment: Gearing mix gives a range like an easier road triple. Brakes are powerful, progressive, all-weather stoppers, regardless of load or terrain. Comes with platform pedals too. -Wheels: Reliable, well sealed hubs and decent, eyeleted disc rims should last forever in the city, and the security skewers are nice, but 32 spokes isn’t ideal for heavy loads. -Shift levers and front Derailleur: Shimano Deore -Rear derailleur: Shimano XT -Crankset: Trutativ Firex -Breaks: Avid Juicy 3 The bike is a size 19". I'm 183cm and I like it because it feels compact and really easy to ride. I wouldn't advise someone taller to buy it. Considering that the bike has been serviced once a year since I bought it, it is in really good condition. The only things, which will need changing are obviously routine things like the break pads and eventually the chain. But this is not expensive and I'm sure that someone who knows his stuff can do it himself without hassle. The bike has been kept indoors when at home. Bonus: You will also get two locks free with the bike: - 1 Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 U-lock: 29.2 cm (worth £50) - 1 Abus Granit Steel-O-Flex 80cm lock (worth £70) If you're looking to buy your first great quality bike, look no further! Please note that if you would like to try the bike, you will need to bring your passport. Otherwise, you'll be only able to try in the garden. Message me if you would like to have a look at it.
