For Sale, my MB 200E which I have owned since September 1998
It's a standard car in metallic blue with blue interior trim, clean carpets and original MB mats front and back. It has two keys and all of the locks work as they should. It has manual window winders (good, because all the power ones have failed and breakers are running out of spares), metal sun roof that operates silently and exactly as it should. It has one manual and one powered side mirror (don't you just love MB?). There's nothing in the car to go wrong and to my mind has always been the better for it.
Good points are;
Bad points are what you'd expect; the driver' seat bolster is worn and one front wing has rust on it, though its not penetrated the metal; the wings were professionally rubbed and re-painted in about 2000. Although the headlights are fine one was a breakers yard replacement unit and is not from the original car. Everything else you could say about the car is age-related or easily resolved.
Please note that in the engine photo the air filter is removed and in the boot photo water got in as I was washing it => there are no stains in the boot and finally there's no CD-multiplayer (it stopped working and I removed it)
This is a 200E (as in Electronic ignition) with mechanical fuel injection (little or nothing to go wrong). For classic MB enthusiasts technical details are as follows, model type W124.021 with engine type M102.963 - the engine is similar to the 2L W201 (190) so parts are readily available. The engine has a duplex timing chain and the car has a CAT, hence the slightly lower engine output. Mileage is about 138k but I'm still using it daily.
I have all MOT certificates and service and repair receipts back to April 3rd 1996. The car had a full main dealer service history until 26th February 2008 when it stood at 117,372 miles.
Since then I've replaced oil and filters (oil, air and fuel), spark-plugs, 'leads and distributor cap + arm, front brake pads, a crankcase ventilation hose, the auxiliary belt and the OVP Relay. Oil is done every six months/6km and the brake fluid and ATF are clean and clear.
This year I've replaced two tyres (they do about 40,000 miles a piece) and the complete exhaust system. I put a tow-bar on the car (with relay wiring) so we could put a bike rack on it but we haven't and haven't towed anything either (instructions on first use and torque settings are included in the service file). It has new rear shock absorbers.
Included with the car are the V5C, the Owners Handbook and Service Book (including all receipts), the complete first aid kit, the warning triangle, jack and the original toolkit (as I did not have the car from new and have never seen an MB tool kit I cannot guarantee all parts are present).
The car is currently situated outside Aberystwyth in West Wales; it's about an hour from Llanelli or Welshpool, two from Swansea or Telford. To check the distance from where you are use postal code SY234TF
