Morris Minor MM Lowlight Split Screen 2 door Saloon with original Sidevalve Engine in very pale green/grey (almost white) with red upholstery in excellent condition.
Regrettably I have to sell this car as I have a shortage of space and have just bought another project. I bought it just over a year ago from a dealer near Norwich. He says that he bought it from an 85 year old gentleman who had decided he was now too old to drive. The V5C shows ONE registered keeper since 24-01-1951 this being the date of first registration. The latest address of the owner is shown as Thetford which is not far from the dealer from whom I bought it. That is about all I know of the car's history, but it is a very solid, mechanically sound vehicle. I bought it with 12 months MOT for which it required only minor adjustments an a couple of bulbs. It is now MOT exempt because of its age. (It is over 62 years old).
It starts and drives well but due to its 27hp engine it is not a racing car but keeps up with modern traffic and cruises about 50mph. The bodywork is very smart and most of the chrome is good. The two front seats and door cards have been re-upholstered in a matching vinyl. I think the rest of the upholstery looks original but is in good condition. It has excellent cross-ply tyres fitted as per original.
This is one of the very last Lowlight models made as it was produced towards the beginning of January 1951 the last Lowlight being produced towards the end of January 1951. You will note from the photos that it does not have the split bumpers and body coloured fillets. This is correct as these were discontinued at car no.SMM832024 and this car is just over 1000 later than that, lowlight production finishing at SMM83390, less than 70 after this car!! This information is from the book, "Original Morris Minor" by Ray Newell.
All in all this is a quite unique car being one of the last lowlights produced and being in such good condition. It is ready to show. It may be the latest lowlight to survive!
The winning bidder must make contact within 24 hours of the auction to arrange collection and payment. Full payment is required as cash on collection within 7 days of auction end.
The vehicle may be collected from South Cheshire 3 miles from M6 jn 16. This is also the location for viewing the vehicle prior to bidding.
If it is of assistance for bidders living some distance away, I know a local recovery firm who can arrange to deliver the vehicle to most parts of the country at very reasonable prices and I can put the successful bidder in touch with them if this helps. As a guide they recently charged £250 to deliver a car from Crewe to London, door to door, but this would have to be negotiated between the buyer and them directly.
