It is the easiest way to install buttons under the top of your bars. If I were Shimano, I would make it -smaller, -more ergonomic, -for both sides and finally: INSULATED. If you want you can pull the circuit boards out and make your own buttons but it really is not worth all the R&D unless you ride in wet conditions (I did it it ! They are ecu driven so can't just add little contact buttons.) these are pretty much out of the way under the bars so clunky but okay and many times better than reaching for the hoods. You can't really add allot of insulation the way they are now unless you do your own as stated. The auxiliary buttons are about the only place E-tap has Di2 beat. :) Note: Make sure your levers support them !!! Currently only the non-hydraulic levers have the extra ports that is the: Ultegra 6870/8050 levers with rim brake support and the same goes for the Dura Ace 9070/9150 for rim brakes.Read full review

Cool little gadget. Have my bike setup so that I can shift both front and rear from the right side shifter. With this shifter switch I don't need to move my hands from the top of the bars to shift up or down.
