Bow and Drill Friction Fire Lighting Kit

About 4 years ago I attended a bushcraft course alongside 12 students who where attending one of the college courses I teach on and for the first time I encountered friction fire lighting using Bow and Drill. The instructor and owner of the Bushcraft School was a guy called Dave Watson who is widely renowned as one of the UK's number one experts in friction fire lighting (I reckon most people would say he is the No1 expert), Dave managed to successfully teach all students the art of friction fire lighting use Bow and Drill. This included several students who had never achieved in any other area in life and where not, to say the least the easiest students to teach. Most of these achievements where down to Daves ability to teach however I also believe that a part of it is Daves ability to select the best materials for this task. On leaving the course Dave donated several Bow and Drill kits to my college and I have used these to teach students over the years however when I needed more I bought commercially available kits and also tried making my own, although there was some success it did not compare with the Standard of Daves kit. I never had any intention of approaching Dave to get any more as I assumed that due to the standard of the kit I initially thought the price would be to high and that I would not be able to sell them anywhere near the price of some of the commercially available kits. What happened was I was approached by a member of the local educational trust who delivers forest school courses to primary and junior school children in Merseyside and was asked to supply the Bow and Drill kits as he had seen me giving a demonstration of it some years ago. I told him to buy some from an online retailer, which he did however he had little success even though he could get it going very quickly with Daves set at my initial demonstration. Again he approached me to get one of Dave Watsons kits for him, I contacted Dave who gave me a price on the kits, the price quoted was that good that the local educational trust put an order in for 15 straight away. The fact remains you can make your own kit or buy a commercially available kit from someone else but if you want to master Friction fire lighting using Bow and Drill or you want to teach it, there is only one kit to go with and thats Dave Watsons.

Bow and Drill Friction Fire Lighting Kit

With this kit you will recieve

Guide Booklet (Written by Dave Watson)

1 x Bow

1x Drill

1 x Base Board

1 x Bearing Block

Learning the art of Friction Fire lighting will not only give you a great sense of achievement it will also give you some of the skills to help you survive in the outdoors.

As an outdoors instructor myself, I have found that students who master this skill can transfer the skills learnt into there academic work and improve social skills.

When we live in a world where many television survival experts make learning this skill look so hard you will find with one of Dave Watsons kits we can all master the Art.

It does take time to practice but if you would like a demonstration on the kit please visit our outdoor superstore in Formby, Merseyside where all of my staff will be able to give you a demonstration on how to use it.

We are currently supplying fire starting and bushcraft kit and equipment to a wide range of Forest Schools, Bushcraft Centres and Outdoor Courses alongside individuals with an interest in this area.
