Be sure to leave a little extra hose slack. First remove/loosen the (Phillips) collar screws, then with a flat screw diver, twist against the inspection cover tab and push the cover firmly down. Now you can remove the hose. The collar that holds the hose in place can be tested for fitment on the hose, before locking it in place. Carefully raise and lower the handle. Relocate the collar until until there is some slackness when the handle is fully resting on the floor or work table. And while not bunching up or kinking when the handle is in the upright position. Use a flash light to help you see how it looks when in this upright/stowed position. Re-install the cover and then the Phillips collar screws. Remember it's just plastic, but It's a great machine. As i mentioned above, during installation, it's very important to take time and be careful to adjust the collar that holds the hose in place. Unlike the factory installation, this is so, the hose has sufficient slack that when the upper half of the unit is lowered, (or worse slips from your hand and falls), to the floor, it won't stretch and break the hose, (like mine did). After weekly use (2-3 tanks of water) for over a year, I cleaned the unit and installed this new hose, properly. With routine checks (hoses, tubes etc) and maintenance (cleaning of the lint screen and brush block) I trust this Hoover SteamVac will provide several more years of trouble free service.
