HARDBACK WITH DUSTJACKET

The West Coast main line from Euston to Glasgow, with its formidable climbs to Shap and Beattock summits, has always been one of the most fascinating arenas for the study of British locomotive peformance.  For many decades the Cumbrian fells and Scottish hills resounded to the strident music of steam locomotives battling up these banks with every-increasing loads against steadily tightening schedules.  Today British Rail's sleek electric locomotives swiftly hum over the summits with apparent lack of effort, a spectacle that the locomotive engineers of old cannot have envisaged in their wildest dreams.

Mr. Nock's narraive is supported by a superb collection of black and white illustrations by Britain's leading railway photographers.

Book is in good condition.  The pages are clean, tight and intact.  Former owner has written his name in ink on the front end-paper.  Yellow residue of cellotape to front and rear pastedowns.  Dustjacket is in good condition.  Front and back flaps have been glued on to the boards and cannot be removed.  Tear to bottom back corner, 3 cm long.  Patch of colour missing from rear cover, the size of 50p piece approximately.  Not price clipped.
