R.Matsuoka M30 in near mint condition

This guitar was handmade and signed by Master Luthier Ryoji Matsuoka. According to the data that I was able to gather on the internet, this guitar has been made sometime in late 1970-ties.  It has survived over 40 years in near mint condition. It has only 2 very small dents on its top and some fine signs of “regular ware”.

Despite somewhat rusted hardware its original Hard Shell Case is in overall excellent working condition.

Its price in 1975 was 30 000 yen.

In 1969 starting (yearly) salary for a Japanese college graduate was 34 000 yen. By 1974 this salary was greater, but still less than 50 000 yen. In 1977 it was close to 60 000 yen.

The guitar has very unique & sweet sound, with clear trebles and deep basses, with great sustain and very good volume.

It is definitely comparable with many guitar models available on US market in price range $2000 - $3000.

 All vintage (made in 1970’s) R. Matsuoka guitars, are of higher grade than some higher numbered models made in 1980’s and later. For example, model M25 made in 1975 is as good as regular model M60 made in 1980’s. M30 is as good as M70 and so on. Simply the same guitar, labelled as M25, made in 1974 and priced at 25 000 yen, ten years later would be sold for 60 000 yen, hence re-labelled to M60. In addition, these guitars with double ebony reinforcement were produced in relatively small numbers and sold at higher prices than regular models. They are naturally much harder to find on Japanese second hand market.

* Ryoji Matsuoka M30

* For serious musicians and collectors

* Immaculate sound

* Solid Spruce Top with quite original bracing (When looking at guitar standing upright, there are 2 horizontal main thick braces above the sound hole and below the sound hole. Below the latter one there is another one horizontal medium size brace, next is horizontal bridge supporting strip and finally diagonal thinner brace close to the very bottom. These horizontal braces are crossed by 6 vertical and parallel thinner braces extending all the way to the bottom)

* Indian Rosewood Back and Sides (laminate that works the same way as solid wood but is sturdier and less prone to cracking)

* Mahogany neck

* Dark Indian Rosewood fretboard

* Fine wood mosaic inlay around sound hole

* Hand Polished Nickel Silver Frets

* Rosewood Bridge

* Slotted Ramirez Style Headstock

* Bone nut and saddles

* Nut width: 52mm

* Scale:650 mm

* Gold hardware

New strings (D’Addario ProArte EJ45 Normal tension)have been installed and its action has been adjusted to 4.00 mm under E6 and 3.5 mm under E1. This action can’t be lowered further without sanding the bridge.

This is a standard action for a classically trained player. It will not be comfortable for a player who after several years of playing steel string guitars is trying to learn classical guitar.

If you are not happy with your purchase you may return the guitar for a full refund. All you need to do is to:

1.    Notify me within 5 days after delivery

2.    Pack guitar the same way I do it, using the same box and materials

3.    Ship it back to me within next 2 days

Another words I expect this “trail” period to occur within +/- 7 days. Naturally guitar has to be returned in the same condition as I ship it to you. This is simply honest offer for honest buyers. My goal is to make your purchase as risk free as possible. I know very well that spending $1000 of hard earned money is not emotionally easy undertaking for majority of guitar lovers. I am sure that reading my feedback can ease a bit your “purchase anxiety” but it still will be there no matter how hard I try. Please believe me I have been “in your shoes” many times before.
