Bivvi Poles, Tactical

A British Paratrooper's Bivi Poles, non-issue item. Enables a basha (shelter sheet, poncho, tarp) to be rigged up in places where trees do not exist. Used also to rig up an OP (Observation Post) or sentry position. Tried and tested kit.

Six aluminium sections in total. 2x top sections, 29cm length (plus ~1" spike); 4x mid sections, 31cm fitted length. Maximum length of poles set, 37cm. Makes 2x 91cm (3') poles or 1x very long pole 1.53 metre. In heavy duty carrying bag.

Enables several configurations of basha setup. The uneven paint job serves as camouflage (I shall demo this in pics later in the week).

Best used in conjunction with 6" nails instead of tent pegs: stick the nail in the ground with at least 1" protruding. Slot the bottom pole over the nail to prevent sideways shifting of the pole.

Shipping to EU is £13.05 (insured), USA and Canada £17.85 (insured), Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere is £18.60 insured. (Please contact me PRIOR to bidding if you are NOT from UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand: there are many countries to which I will not be able to mail.)

I expect to relocate to London at short notice around or soon after the 3rd week of June. Until then, I shall continue to list new items and automatically relist unsold items as I have been doing.

What doesn't sell will be returned to storage boxes stored in BW and offered for sale once I've fully established myself in London, if not donated to charity shops. This might take a good few months.

As soon as I have a date of relocation, I may have to end listings that have no bids. It might well pay to place a minimum bid early if you intend to make a bidsnipe, if only to keep the auction active.

Please read my terms and conditions before bidding:

Terms & Conditions:

  • Only bid if you intend to pay for the item.
  • Payment within 3 days, please. If you need more time, (it happens sometimes) contact me before bidding - or asap otherwise.
  • I combine shipping but won't know that you intend to bid on other items if you don't advise me. Ignore the "each additional" item in the postage checkout, if it appears: I'll weigh your combined items and issue an accurate total shipping cost.
  • Postage is by cheapest secure mail. I do not charge for packing materials because I recycle packing materials.
  • I'll consider shipping overseas - but please contact me prior to bidding so that I can quote you shipping price. I will not ail to countries that Royal Mail don't offer at least a sign for service. (Otherwise, I can perhaps mail by FedEx, DHL, etc.)

On 06-Jun-14 at 15:25:38 BST, seller added the following information:

I'm including the brown stowage bag. There are some holes at the top of this bag - it's never affected carriage. I've added some pics that demonstrate how these poles can be used. The shelter sheet and cords are NOT included in this sale. Using two sections at each end of a poncho, shelter sheet or "tarp" gives a very low silhoette. The first and second pics show how just long grass at a roadside can hide you from view of passers-by literally only a few metres away on the pavement, cars on the road and close by houses. The third pic shows two sections used at the feet end with three sections at the head end. This is better for torrential rain, feet towards wind. You can add the spare section to the head or remove a section from the feet end, the options are numerous. In stormy weather, you might remove the feet end pole completely, pegging down the middle of the sheet at the feet end. The fourth pic shows all three sections used at each end. A frequent favourite for hiking and angling is the "lean-to" demonstrated on a slope. Obviously, it can be used on the flat! This is absurdly quick to setup. In woods, my hiking/climbing/bushcraft partners and I would often fit all mid sections together to make a long pole. A clean empty tin can or cup is placed over the pole with cushioning (spare clothes) over that. This then is pushed up into the centre of a shelter sheet suspended between four trees so that rain water doesn't collect on the shelter sheet. There's no demo pic of this 'cause I can't find more than two trees close together in my area (Bridgwater). There are various methods of using them but the close up shows my prefered method: a bowline attaches your cord to the shelter, a "Marlin Spike" hitch (a slipknot) is made close to it and the spike of the top pole is slid into the loop. If using cord only, you may use another "Marlin Spike" hitch around the nail/peg - or if you want to be really clever, use an adjustable Tautline Hitch. If using bungees, make another bowline and hook into it the bungee hook. I'll add some pics of use on hiking/climbing trips, as/when I find them. This kit is simple but highly effective. These days, I use hiking poles which don't work well above about 3x feet and can't be carried inside a rucksack: it might be a mistake selling these but I need to declutter.
