I tried the earlier model which my son has and I thought it was absolutely brilliant and I expected the updated version to be as good if not better but alas it wasn't . The former model had a paddle that agitated the foodstuff as it rotated whereas the new model doesn't have this but tilts instead and a hump in the tray is supposed to lift the foodstuff and turn it sadly it fails to do this effectively and the end result although ok is not as good as the original.

I have been very pleased with this and have used it every day since it arrived. I have found that I hardly need to use the 'tilt' mechanism so far, as the potatoes rotate better when it is in the flat position. Also the issue of the handle mechanism which for me is slightly stiff ,can be easily be overcome by picking up the bowl with a heat proof cloth. I am truly delighted with the efficiency of the machine, for its attractive, easy to clean, easy to store features. We are all into healthy eating in our family and have never 'done' deep fry anyway. So this does amazing 'roast' potatoes with a tiny amount of 'Fry Light' spray, and together with a plateful of green veg and fish or chicken it's the tops. I would have given it five stars but for the stiff handle, but -well, that's not a problem. Love it!Read full review

I've used a Tefal Actifry for years but was continually replacing broken parts. The Breville is far superior, in my view. The pan size is the same but it is far easier to keep clean as it all comes apart for washing. It has a rotating pan to evenly cook the food and tilts to tumble chips and smaller items of food. What's more, it has two choices of cooking - top and bottom or top only. It does chicken beautifully, as unlike the Actifry, the pan rotates steadily for even cooking. An added bonus is that it is far quieter. And the price - amazing! Far cheaper. Perhaps my only gripe is that I find it tricky to clip the lid back into place after cleaning. And you need to keep your fingers out of the way when you release the knob on the side to return the device from 'tilt' to normal. The Breville wins hands down - my Actifry has been consigned to the cupboard.Read full review

It does so much more than I imagined. It's not just for chips and thiings like that. I can leave things cooking themselves while I get on with other jobs. Lots of things that I would normally have to keep stirring can just be left so I have more time. It's brilliant for stir fries. I really like that it's got a great non stick surface so you need hardly any oil.
