James May, jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame all write books. The difference is that all Jeremy's are collections of his articles from various publications, most recently Top Gear magazine and usually the Times, which means if you take those papers it's old news. Richard writes from scratch and is insightful and often poignant. James does both, and is intellectually superior, if a little nerdy. But still excellent, all three. You have to have a sense of humour, preferably dry and wry. If you haven't got one, steer clear. The rest will love all of them.
