Great period example of an original Revolutionary War American spontoon pike head, similar to those seen in numerous reference books on the subject of weapons of the period (see "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by Nuemann as well as "The Collectors Encylcopedia of the American Revolution)
Hand forged, this armorer made piece exhibits some wonderful designs characteristics including a typical leaf shaped blade and formed socket collar. What separated this example out from a otherwise typical plainer counterpart is the fact the blacksmith working in an inverted "C" shaped cross bar design. Please click below the images to produce enlargements that showcase this design element.
Affixed to a long wooden pole, the pike was a simple yet effective weapon of the American military during the Revolutionary War. The blade would have been used being advanced on opposing forces while also being anchored in the ground with oncoming troops impaling themselves on the blade.
This great original example is in near fine condition. There is some slight pitting to the iron from age, else fine, solid shape. Again, please see the pictures for individual details.
A great relic of the American Revolutionary War from a collection assembled by a dedicated enthusiast decades ago.
Up for a period of seven days with no reserve and a low starting bid.
