For your consideration and for auction I offer a

                   PAIR OF FIRST DAY COVERS
                        PERSONALLY SIGNED
BY CHAY BLYTH AND DILLWYN MILES.

The FDCs, produced by Bradbury Covers, features the full set of commemorative stamps issued in 2003.

With this issue, a block of ten stamps, Royal Mail commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The pictures on the 10 27p stamps show:

Studland Bay, Dorset - Luskentyre, South Harris - Cliffs, Dover, Kent - Padstow Harbour, Cornwall - Broadstairs, Kent,

St. Abb's Head, Scottish Borders - Dunster Beach, Somerset - Newquay Beach, Cornwall - Portrush, County Antrim - Sand-spit, Conwy.
.

These covers are both number 13 of Bradbury's Sovereign Series and features a cover designed by A. Bradbury with images of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Both covers are postmarked 19th March 2002, specially stamped at Haverfordwest, on the first day of issue, the covers being in great condition.

The covers, limited editions of just 210 covers, both being number 63, have been personally hand-signed by Chay Blyth, the celebrated British yachtsman and by Dillwyn Miles,an original member of the committee that planned the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Sir Chay Blyth is known to many as the first person to sail non-stop, “the wrong way” round the world aboard the 69ft ketch British Steel.  This however is only one of his many achievements.  Since 1966 when he and John Ridgeway rowed across the Atlantic, Chay has been pushing the boundaries again and again in sailing, and in business.

When he skippered Great Britain II in the Whitbread Race of 1973/4, they won the elapsed time prize and a grand total of nine trophies out of the twelve available. In 1978, he won the Two-handed Round Britain and Ireland Race with Rob James in Great Britain IV and followed that in 1981 by winning the Two-handed Transatlantic Race with Rob James in Brittany Ferries and breaking the record.
The same year he competed in the Whitbread Race again. He was 2nd in the 1982 Round Britain and Ireland Race and was co-skipper of the successful Blue Riband transatlantic attempt in 1986 on Virgin Atlantic Challenger II

In recognition of his achievements, he was made a Commander of The British Empire (CBE) and was voted Yachtsman of the Year by the Yachting Journalists Association. Amongst his many notable achievements, Sir Chay is recognised as the first person to open the sport of yacht racing to a wider audience, giving people from all walks of life the opportunity to race around the world on equal terms.

Dillwyn Miles was a member of the Gorsedd of Bards of the National Eisteddfod of Wales for more than 50 years and Grand Swordbearer then Herald Bard from 1966 until 1996.

Among his many duties was that of attendance at Caernarvon Castle in July 1969 for the Investiture of the Prince of Wales; during a rehearsal he was chided by the Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, for being six seconds late.

In Pembrokeshire he served on the Haverfordwest borough council, was mayor of Haverfordwest and admiral of the port, sheriff of the town and county of Haverfordwest, and a member of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Committee.

Miles's books included The Castles of Pembrokeshire (1979); A Pembrokeshire Anthology (1983) and The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (1987).

If you are purchasing more than one item, please wait for an invoice to allow me to adjust the postal charges.

I shall leave the images to complete my description and welcome all questions.

All that remains is to thank you for your interest and invite you to take a peek at my other items which includes more signed FDCs.

Postage to the EU will be £1.99.
