This album was readily available to me, as I was signed to Arista Records in Upper Brook Street ,London at the time that Patti Smith was with Arista, and this album came out whilst I was there.I am the original bass player of Simple Minds, and this album was a major influence on me personally. I later met Patti's bass player/ guitarist, Ivan Kral at Rockfield Studios in South Wales. He was playing with Iggy Pop ,(Jim Osterberg), and I was asked to sing backing vocals , along with Ivan, by Iggy and David Bowie. That album was 'Soldier' and it was produced by legendary Stooges guitar player James Williamson. Thank you ebay for putting another part of the jigsaw back in place. Derek Forbes
If Horses is your first introduction to the superb Patti Smith, great choice but the 2x set Legacy Edition containing the 1975 debut Horses plus the 2005 live at the royal festival hall performance of Horses maybe a better option. Also I would like to recomend her album Land which is basicly her greatest hits from the years 1975-2002 any album with the wonderful"because the night" on it must be worth a listen.Give them a try, you will not be dissapointed.
I am so biased, I love Patti. I grew up up in the 60s with the blues boom. By the time Horses came out I was so very unhappy with the music being churned out. Captain Beefheart had gone AWOL, Guitar solos lasted for 17 minutes and Lou Reed was teetering on the brink of the banal. Then there was Patti. She was a poet, she felt the soul of Rock and did not care who she offended. This album gave me back my music, this album killed off the prog rock guys. This album changed music. The strange thing is that a lot of bands start well but few last (look at the Stones)very few artists keep their artistic integrity through the years. Patti is a treasure, she should be lauded. Patti Smith - Horses, the album that changed the world. Nuff said. Phil
Born of the wrong decade, delighted that music history has been stored for all time and above that the chance to enjoy one of the bes albums i've ever heard. I prefer the who's version of my generation but love hearing patti letting rip on that track.
