UNIQUE/RARITY PORT ROYAL FORT CHARLES 1700 - 1800 ENGLISH GUNNER’S BRASS BUTTON

This is an authentic artifact and not a replica. See Sir Robert F. Marx’s book: “Pirate Port” page 151. And a C.O.A. signed by Marx accompanies the Port Royal artifact.

The 18th century button was recovered from a debris mound adjacent to Fort Charles that guarded the harbor entrance to Port Royal. Jamaica that was two-thirds destroyed by a 1692 earthquake that was accompanied by three tidal waves.

Port Royal was the home to pirates, privateers, Sir Henry Morgan, Admiral Benbow, and Lord Horatio Nelson to name a few.

A three year on-land and underwater expedition/excavation directed by world-renowned Underwater Archaeologist Robert F. Marx recovered a multitude of artifacts that showed how the people lived in what was once the richest city in the world and known for where one out of every four buildings was either a tavern or brothel.

This button has been restored using the electrolysis process that took nearly one month. The rear of the button shows the remnants of the brass loop which held the thread that hooked it to the gunner’s uniform.Seller includes small case.
