A Good copy of the Collectible Methodist Magazine odd months within 1858 and 1860 and the Odd Fellows Magazine for odd months in 1860 and 1861 bound with frontispieces of leading Spiritual leaders of the day.

 

 1858-1861. frontispiece (often missing) of Thomas Bateman  - one of the most influential men in the early years of the Primitive Methodist movement who came under the influence of John Wedgewood & other frontispieces which are

 

The beginning of the book is a little muddled starting with a month in 1858 probably September starting at p453 with frontispiece of Thomas Bateman. Then November and December run from p642-760 with frontispice of R. Langhem. Then May 1860 with frontispiece of Elihu (?) Tyas and then October 1860 with frontis of William Byron

 

Then Quarterly Magazine of the Independent Order of Odd-Fellows, Manchester Unity edited by George Frederick Pardon Vol II October 1860 with frontispiece of J. W. Reynolds and January 1861 with frontispiece of J. M Richardson

 

 

Further Details

 

Hardback : 8.25"x 5.25". Hundreds of pages differently paginated with frontispieces.

 

Contemporary mid 1800s cloth binding with "Magazines" in gilt to spine. Wear to extremities of boards with marks to front and back board - some mottling marks to head & foot margins (not affecting internal condition). Small nicks to head of spine. Internally complete with no obvious inscriptions. Tight textblock. Some occasional browning & foxing. Small chip to right blank margin of one leaf.  Small hole between p450-480 in first Odd Fellows Magazine. No loose leaves.

 

An early mixture of magazines of the Methodist and Odd-Fellows Movements.
