The pan pipe, also known as the pan flute or zampona is probably one
of the most well known traditional musical instruments of the Andes.
Played by the indigenous Andean tribes people for countless
generations, these beautiful instruments come in many shapes and sizes
and vary in name depending on the particular regions they come from.
Known by the Quechua tribes as the antara, by the Aymara as the the
siku or zampolla, and more commonly referred to as the Spanish zampona,
these handmade Bolivian panpipes are the genuine article and produce a
beautiful sound reminiscent of their ancestral heritage and worthy of

you see here are professional instruments and should not be confused
with cheaper tourist grade pan pipes sold in Peruvian markets and other
internet trinket sites.
Created by traditional Bolivian luthiers, these pan flutes come with a
handmade zampona case to protect the instrument from changes in
temperature and humidity.
There are 4 kinds of zampona, each tuned 1/8 of an octave higher than
it’s sibling. The lowest known as the Toyos, then the Zankas, the
Maltas and the highest being the Chulis.
These particular pan pipes are of the Malta type and are comprised of
15 bamboo tubes of varying lengths, fashioned in 2 rows of 7 and 8
The longest pipe measures an inside length of 13 inches with a diameter of 1/2 an inch.
This instrument is tuned to the key of Sol Major (G) and it’s
