8mm x 0.75mm Neodymium (NdFeB) Disk Magnet

Brand New, unused, in packaging

This listing is for fifty magnets

Magnet Properties
Photobucket Shape Disk
Photobucket Diameter 8 mm (0.31") +/- 0.1mm manufacturing tolerance
Photobucket Thickness 0.75 mm (0.02") +/- 0.1mm manufacturing tolerance, magnetised through the thickness (one flat face is north, the other is south)
Photobucket Weight 0.28 g each
Photobucket Grade N35
Photobucket Coating Ni-Cu-Ni (Nickel-Copper-Nickel)
Photobucket Maximum Temp 80C / 176F
Photobucket Calculated Pull * 0.8lb / 13oz / 367g
Photobucket Vertical Hold ** 0.16lb / 2.6oz / 73g
* The pull is calculated using a mathematical formula and is, therefore, the theoretical maximum hold between one magnet and a mild steel plate. It does not take account of manufacturing tolerances, plating, plating thickness or variances in a mild steel plate.

** The vertical hold is based upon the calculated pull and is, therefore, only for guidance. Factors such as paint thickness, plasticised surfaces, movement and vibration are not taken into account.

WARNING:  Neodymium magnets are unsuitable for children under 8. Neodymium magnets do not flex and will snap in half if this is attempted.

International Buyers - PLEASE NOTE:

Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or P&P charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (courier or mail) company or when you pick the item up - do not confuse them for additional P&P charges. We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as 'gifts' - international government regulations prohibit such behaviour.

Following the changes made by eBay on 22 September 2009, we have taken the decision to stop posting to selected international destinations. This is because of extensive problems we have experienced in shipping to these locations which has resulted in our having to subsidise the postage by sending all items by the tracked 'International Signed For' service. Buyers in these destinations are blocked from purchasing our listings. Currently, these destinations are as follows, please note the list is subject to change, without notice:

Afghanistan, Africa (all countries), Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea (North and South), Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Malta, Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, Pakistan, Romania, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

Neodymium (chemical symbol Nd) is element 60 on the periodic table. It’s a rare earth metal and forms one of the Lanthanides series. When added to Iron (Fe) and Boron (B) (chemical formula Nd14Fe21B) the resultant magnets are the strongest magnets currently available. Neodymium magnets are sometimes known as Neod or NIB magnets.

Their uses are very varied but care must be taken because they are brittle if allowed to jump together, are normally only safe for use below 80°C/176°F although we do stock some high and extra high operating temperature magnets.

The smaller magnets are often used for jewellery clasps, magnetic therapy jewellery, magnetic earrings (one each side of the ear), fridge magnets, model train connecters, motors, science projects etc. Larger magnets are used for science projects, actuators, separators, speakers, pumps, magnetic therapy and circuit breakers in power stations.

Neodymium magnets are usually coated to prevent the iron from rusting. Normally this is a Nickel-Copper-Nickel plating, however, Zinc, Tin, Black Nickel, Gold and Silver plating are also used as are Epoxy resin and PTFE (better known under the brand name Teflon). The Gold and Silver plated magnets are often used to make homemade magnetic therapy jewellery. Particularly using a number of spheres to make necklaces or bracelets.
