This accordion was purchased in the late 1950's from a music shop in Glasgow by John McAdam who resided in County Monaghan, Ireland. This gentleman has long since passed on. The instrument has been kept by members of his family who were not interested in playing or learning to play the accordion. I am informed that the instrument has not been played since the death of it's owner over 40 years ago.
Shortly after purchasing the accordion I had it examined by a highly regarded accordion expert in the UK. This is what he said when inspecting the instrument
EXPERT INSPECTION OF ACCORDION
This instrument is in Mint Condition and is probably the best I have ever seen in my lifetime. It still has the original Paolo Soprani Straps which you can see are virtually unused.
The case with the instrument is not Paolo Soprani as cases were not provided with the sale of these instruments at the time. I have opened the instrument and examined the bass and treble reed blocks. I have found no evidence of the instrument being opened prior to me doing so. The reed-valves etc have never been touched since leaving the Paolo Soprani factory all those years ago.
From examination, t is obvious that this instrument has not been played or even handled for many years. It has been well kept in a case wrapped inside a cloth cover which has helped to preserve the reeds and valves and the overall instrument.
I have had the privilage of Playing Paolo Soprani accordions of similar type for a lifetime. I got my first three voice Paolo Soprani in 1956 and in 1959 I moved on to a 4 voice model. I have been playing and repairing Paolo Soprani ever since
This is the cleanest, finest example of a 50's Paolo Soprani I have ever seen
This accordion plays beautifully, it is the perfect Paolo Soprani sound and tone
A simply incredible Paolo Soprani
The accordion is in immaculate and MINT condition (scroll down for detail photographs),
This accordion has never been played outside in the open air
Paolo Soprani are considered the Rolls Royce of accordions

HISTORY OF THIS ACCORDION
This instrument was manufactured in the Paolo Soprani factory, Castlefidardo, Ancona Italy in 1957. There are some markings and a date on the bellows 1957. The instrument has all the hallmarks of being manufactured at this time. The reeds used are handmade and the bellows side strap is in a fixed position and has had no adjusting wheel found on later 1960 models. I t also has the original red Paolo Soprani badge which was used after the Grey diatonic instruments were discontinued in 1955. The thin brown leather straps on this instrument are the early straps used by Paolo Soprani. Th straps are in a n unused condition.
This instrument is special in that it has been tuned for the Scottish market in C sharp D. This special tuning allows the player to play in the key of A minor which is greatly used in Scottish music. The key of A minor has three sharp notes. Many players find it difficult or impossible to play in three sharps on the normal B/C Tuning. I t is therefore easy on this instrument as all you have to do is play in the simple fingering of G major on the B/C box and in doing so, you are sounding in A major.
Here is a chart which will tell you what this instrument can do.
B/C fingering of the C major scale sounds in D Major
B/C fingering of the D major scale sounds in E Major
B/C fingering of the G major scale sounds in A minor
B/C fingering of the F Major scale sound in G Major
