Brosnan holds a swirling-air of spontaneous suspense & flamboyant danger in a performance which marks a return to his character-acting roots. An excellent performance which will have you asking questions about who the real Pierce is? Certainly not James Bond, his abilities take him much further than just charm and adrenaline. The story guides us into the lonely world of the hired-assasin; an alcoholic, schovanistic, live fast, die fast, impulse driven egocentric who's cold-blooded antics are both his making and painful demise. Painfully Comic and yet wonderfully charming, this is a great film to watch!
Pierce was great as 'James Bond', but watch him in this amazingly moving story about two men who have more in common than meets the eye. Heard the phrase 'You scrath my back i'll scratch yours'?, The Matador gives a whole new meaning! NO genre, just all the best bits merged into one brilliant film, laugh, cry and be blown away by the plot twists and performances from Brosnan and Kinnear. High recommeneded to any film fanatic, highly under-rated but worth every minute!
A drunk, lonely and shambolic hit man, Julian Noble (Brosnan) is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In search of some real human connection and friendship, a chance encounter with straight-laced, mild-mannered travelling salesman Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear) in Mexico City triggers a strange bond between the two. As fate brings them together and bound by an awkward friendship, their very existence begins to take on a whole new meaning as their lives are
It's been out a while and on TV but probably one of Brosnan's bests performances. The slightly off-beat but humours tale of an ageing hit-man (Brosnan) who can't assassinate anymore. It's a not a blood and guts movie. The slightly bemused, immature and socially awkward character is no 007 look alike and it's actually better than it sounds. With a flow of amusing events and dialogue rather than belly laughs, it's the sort of film you could watch again from time to time, so one for the bookshelf. My 19 year old son recommended it and I enjoyed it too.
