Item Description

RARE COALPORT LAMP BASE

BY PERCY SIMPSON C.1925

Item: An impressive Rare Coalport Campana vase shaped lamp base. Pale primrose and gold gilt borders, painted with a panoramic scene of Ptarmigans in winter plumage, in a snow covered moorland landscape, and signed P Simpson.

Provence: Frank A Barrett. During research for one of his books, the ceramic historian Frank Barrett interviewed Percy Simpson who showed him some of his work, including this lamp base. Barrett much admired the lamp and offered to buy it, whereupon the artist insisted on making it a gift to Mr Barrett. The lamp has remained in his family every since.

Fitted for electricity.

Date: 1925

Measurements: h.- 9 ½”, 25 cm, 250 mm..

Condition Report: Excellent condition- No chips, cracks, hair lines or restoration. Perfect order.
