RTV Silicone Mould Making Rubber 1.04kg Kit

 1kg Silicone + 80g Catalyst - Shore Hardness A28 (Medium)

Total Volume 1 Litre

The cured rubber is a flexible, elastic material with high tear resistance, it has a long mould life, very low shrinkage and excellent reproduction of fine detail.  Blue catalyst which provides a visual aid to ensure that the material is thoroughly mixed, a clear catalyst is available on request. The working time can be ajusted by varying  the amount of catalyst added.  For example using 2% catalyst at 25°C the material has a pot life of 40-50 mins with a cure time of 2-3 hours and using 4% catalyst it has a fast cure time of 1-1.5 hours with a pot life of 10-15 mins.  The two components mix easily by hand and because of the low viscosity can be used without processing in a vacuum chamber. This silicone is suited for the detailed reproduction of figures, art objects and similar items.

  • Can be pigmented to a wide range of colours
  • It can be softened to your own requirements using this softening additive
  • Can be made thixotropic for applying to vertical surfaces or to over head objects
  • Outstanding release properties
  • Variable pot life and cure time
  • Flexible, elastic material with High tear resistance
  • High tensile strength
  • Good polyester resistance
  • No risk of the casting material gripping the mould surface

SUITABLE FOR USE WITH:

  • Polyurethane resin
  • Epoxy resin
  • Polyester resin
  • Acrylic resin
  • Plaster
  • Cement
  • Polymer Clays
  • Waxes

Not suitable for use with food , on human skin or for casting hot metals. Please view my other products which are suitable for these applications.

METHOD OF USE

Preparation

The surface of the original should be clean and free of any dust or loose material. If necessary, particularly with porous surfaces, a suitable release agent should be used.

Mixing

Pour out the required amount of white base in to a container, weigh it and measure out the correct amount of catalyst at a ratio of between 100:2 to 100:4 by either weight or volume. Gently mix the two components together avoiding as much air entrapment as possible until a uniform colour is achieved. Pay particular attention to the sides and base of the container.

Pouring

The silicone can now be gently poured at lowest point into the mould box in ensuring that any of the air bubbles burst over the rim until the level of the liquid in box has risen sufficiently over the master models highest point. During this process it is advisable to pour the mixed material in a long streaky stream which also helps in bursting air bubbles introduced during mixing.

Two Part Moulds

When creating a two part mould the cured surface of the first half must be coated in a release agent Click Here before pouring the second half to prevent the uncured silicone from adhering to the cured silicone during the curing process.

CARE OF MOULDS

To achieve maximum mould life with polyester resin it is advisable to first allow the moulds to fully cure after pouring for approximately 5-7 days before casting into them. When casting polyester resin into silicone moulds, styrene attack can be minimised, by leaving the moulds open for as long as possible between casts to allow free styrene to evaporate. The moulds can however be used immediately after de-moulding for plaster casting.
