This sale is for a vintage hardback FIRST EDITION entitledTraffics and Discoveries,” by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).

It was published by Macmillan and Co., Limited, of London, and is the 1904 FIRST EDITION.

The book is a combination of Boer war stories, naval stories, a farce about early motoring, and stories such as “They”, a study of a father who is mourning a dead child, and the mystifying “Mrs Bathurst”.

The contents include:

·        From the Masjid-Al-Aqsa of Sayyid Ahmed (Wahabi)

·        The Captive

·        Poseidon’s Law

·        The Bonds of Discipline

·        The Runners

·        A Sahibs’ War

·        The Wet Litany

·        ‘Their Lawful Occasions’

·        The King’s Task

·        The Comprehension of Private Copper

·        The Necessitarian

·        Steam Tactics

·        Kaspar’s Song in ‘Varda’

·        ‘Wireless’

·        Song of the Old Guard

·        The Army of a Dream

·        The Return of the Children

·        ‘They’

·        From Lyden’s ‘Irenius’

·        Mrs. Bathurst

·        ‘Our Fathers Also’

·        Below the Mill Dam

The book measures 8 inches x 5.5 inches x 1.3 inches and has 393 pages, which are gilt edged to the top rims.

The book is in good neat condition for its age, save a nasty bump/bruise to the top front corner of the otherwise good original cloth hardback cover, with foxing near the covers and a little to the rims. There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages.  There is no dust-jacket.

A wonderful vintage FIRST EDITION.
