Why would anyone use a special-size filter, hard to wash, expensive to replace, when a slice of foam probably squashes into the filter space on top of your engine. You don't even need a screwdriver to do the job yourself. On my 998cc Toyota / Peugeot / Citroen engine the air filter slot is quite small and half this piece of foam covered it and overlap, to be squashed round the edge of the slot by the lid when forced shut. I have no way of testing filter effectiveness or importance, but do read that cotton or foam filters are better than steel and possibly better than paper, and I see that Ramair is a UK company in engine filter business with a reputation to keep-up, so I guess they've done their homework. I have no way of testing whether a washed and recycled filter - paper or foam - is as good as a new one. This one says "impregnated with a polymer", which I hope stays attached in the wash. It looks as though ti would wash OK though. I do have a way of breatthing through filters. Both paper and foam allowed air to pass easily, but I think the foam allowed more, which in turn allows the engine to run better.Read full review

if you are someone who doesnt have trouble getting exactly the right filter every single time..then this probably does you no good. for everyone else, start by considering all the time, effort and postage wasted in getting what you need. this filter gives you a clean cut with a standard stanley or poundland boxcutter. I cut a perfect filter for both my honda ex-800 and ex-1000. both engines are well happy. I got it because I found and old abused one... wasnt crumbly as they get but just caught too much muck to clean...clean carbs tho! The bad part about this product?..... well I work on small engines....and now ill never bother to even try to get 'the correct filter' ever again lol

bought to replace a bike air filter, original was gross but could understand why it had not been changed when i found out the price of a replacement. modified the air box to accept sheet of foam, saved me a fortune and made it easy to replace in future.only problem i had it has to go in a certain way black side up....all looked grey to me (could be my eyes as mrs put it right way up and informed me i was a plank) would certainly recommend*****

What can you say about a foam pad? Well, this is a dual layer foam pad and it seems to be of decent quality. And, this is cheaper than buying a 'ready to fit' specific filter for your vehicle. Tip: Cut it slightly bigger than you need, then trim it to fit, as its much easier to trim bits off than add bits on if its too small.

Typical brilliant product from Ramair at a great price. I have used them before and cut them to fit inside my air filter box on a classic old motorbike.
