I recently sold mine- why? because of an omission so stupid it's hard to believe. Obviously these machines will be used for recording for people like me and like me any owner will be impressed by the versatility, the sound quality, the add on pedals and actuators etc. BUT THEN when you come to record the thing plays back at an excrutiatingly high level with no variation and no performance parameters which makes it virtually impossible to use in a mix. I contacted Roland who said that the SPD30 DOES NOT READ MIDI MACHINE CODE!!!!! What a stupid, incompetent and unprofessional omission, it's hard to believe that a company like Roland could do something so stupid. Result? I sold it, bought an Alesis performance pad pro and pocketed the extra £450. The Alesis, though nowhere near as complete a machine, has fantastic sounds and is much better to record with.Read full review

Forget what previous reviewer said it does have midi ports and you can easily extend with external triggers. The sounds are amazing and the pads are very responsive and durable. The best percussion pad ever made. Yes it doesn't do samples but that's what the spd sx is for but the phrase loop is great for being creative. This is for true percussionists wanting to expand. I highly recommend these.
