Hello, I’m selling my beloved Rolleiflex 2,8F 80mm medium format 6x6 camera. This model has the desirable Carl Zeiss Planar 80mm f/2,8 taking lens, a coupled functioning light meter, and is the last model “F” manufactured of the classic era 1966.
If this camera is a new experience for you, please allow me to warn you that nearly all Rolleiflex’s sold on eBay require service before any attempt to use them should be made. The 50-year old grease has most certainly hardened in the watch like gears, and you risk damaging the camera forcing it to turn without a proper service. The lens is also likely clouded with years of oil residue and the shutter is almost always slower than the desired speed. Well fortunately this camera has received a full Clean Lube and Adjustment (CLA) by Oceanside Camera Repair serviced by Henry Fleenor. (rolleirepairs.com)
Mr. Fleenor is arguably the most respected Rollei trained technician still servicing Classic Rolleiflex TLR cameras in the United States. There is a 4-month lead time for repairs and my repair was completed May 9th 2011 for $436. I will email a scanned image of the receipt upon request.
I have used this camera through several rolls of Illford B&W film and can confidently state that this camera performs to factory standard. The shutter fires accurately and the exposure wheels to adjust aperture and speed turn smoothly. The working light meter is coupled to the exposure settings and determines exposure setup effortlessly. The film advance and winder is also a joy to use. The focusing grid is scratch free and very bright, no need to upgrade as most cameras found on eBay.
I am also including a custom leather strap made in Italy by Luigi for no extra charge, there’s normally a 2-month lead time on delivery of this hand crafted strap and it cost me $200. It is very soft and makes carrying and shooting with the waist level finder especially pleasant.
This camera is largely responsible for my foray back into film. In fact, I’ve recently invested in a Rollei 6000 series system. The new system is very expensive so I’ll have to part with my crown jewel to help offset the cost difference. I’m gaining an arsenal of exquisite glass with the SLR system but this camera is so much lighter, quieter, and simpler. I wish I could keep both!
I am confident that if you’re considering this camera to use, there is no finer example up for sale on eBay. Please check out the example picture that was taken with this camera. It’s certainly not mint as one thinks of buying something new, but it’s aesthetically in very good condition and you’ll be proud handling and showing it off.
I’m not accepting returns because I need a one-time sale to pay for the aforementioned new gear but look at my feedback; I’m stateside and will do my best to ensure your satisfaction with this purchase. Also please note that eBay describes this camera as a 35mm, please rest assured it is definitely a 6cm x 6cm film format using your choice of 120 or 220. And obviously this camera is not autofocus as stated in the description by eBay.
