Royal Army Medical Corp (RAMC)
Commando Green 54cm Beret and choice of Cap Badge
Army Commando
The British Commandos were first formed by the Army in June 1940 during World War II as a well-armed but non-regimental raider force employing unconventional and irregular tactics to assault, disrupt and reconnoitre the enemy in mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
Initially raids were typically made by comparatively small numbers, of short duration and at night, later growing in complexity and size. The Commandos were formed and operated in secrecy and produced a demoralising effect on German coastal forces while achieving celebrity status among the British public, comparable with that attached to fighter pilots and shrouded in myth. As the war progressed commandos operated increasingly in the role of shock troops, sometimes up to brigade strength and sometimes in conjunction with infantry.
The Royal Army Medical Corps has a long history of supporting Commando Operations, in 1945 L/CPL
Henry Eric Harden (RAMC) who was attached to 45 Commando during operation Blackcock in Holland was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for his fearless bravery in giving first aid and carrying out casualty evacuation while under fire.
Now Medical Corp members who have passed the Elite All Arms Commando Course and are serving with any part of 3 Commando Brigade are entitled to wear the coveted Green Beret with their Cap Badge54cm Commando Green Beret and RAMC Cap Badge
This beret is a high quality beret that is often prefered by military personnel instead of the issue ones, the beret has a smaller crown and is extremely easy to shape.
We have not made any attempt to really shape the beret in the photo and although there are several sellers on EBAY that offer a beret shaping service it is impossible to do unless the person shaping it has exactly the same size head as you have!!
Contact Left Limited has written a guide on shaping berets to ensure that you will be able to carry this process out yourself (see link below)
The Cap Badge is made by an official Ministry of Defence Manufacturer and is available in the original colour shown on the photo or in a Mat Black Subdued Colour. Please let us know if you would like it in black otherwise you will be sent it in the badges original colour.
The Nato Stock Number (NSN) for the Cap Badge is 8455-99-122-4096
Please be aware you are buying a high quality beret here, other sellers are advertising cheap berets as high quality for up to £20, we have the cheap versions in most colour for under £5 in our EBAY shop, the cheaper berets are ideal for re-enactors, cadets and theatre and television, the beret advertised here is high quality and ideal for serving military or official collectors.
